THE SPIRIT AND THE LETTER
Does the process, details, and rules that are put in place to guide an organization or project excite you? Does creativity, pressing the boundaries of what is deemed acceptable, feelings of exhilaration for the process excite you? Amongst all of the brain power exerted, the expertise tapped into, the precedents that inform us, there is a vibrant force that permeates all of it. Can the spirit of the process and the letter of the process coexist?
In the repetition of the letter, the process becomes refined and repeatable, which helps efficiency. The repetition also can become rigid and stringent. If efficiency is all we are after then we should automate the process as quickly as possible. If we want the world to look the same in every corner we see and everyone to do the same thing, stick to the letter. Humanity was not created to follow the rules. Are they necessary to have a general order to our lives, of course. Will they help accomplish the dreams that every person on this earth has before they succomb to the letter of the law, which brings us down to the level that fits society? NO! At some point we've got to be letter busters. We've got to play by a new set of rules. The rule of the spirit, the nuclear reactor that resides in all of us that has no limits. How do we do this?
Connection: Sincere connection and seeking others that live by the rule of the spirit.
Source: Become a generating force of strength and encouragement for others
Substance: The essential currency of the heart, mind, and soul that comes from connecting and being a source.
When the letter weighs heavy and we don't think we can break free of the rituals and routines that have come to define us, seek connection, become a source, your spirit will build substance, which will help us become letter busters and play by the rules of the spirit.
